Ingredients
For the Bread Bowl:
1 large round sourdough bread loaf (about 10 inches wide)
1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for brushing)
For the Filling:
1 lb (450g) ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Directions
Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare the Bread Bowl: Slice off the top of the bread loaf and hollow out the center, leaving about 1-inch thickness around the edges. Set aside the bread pieces for dipping or another use. Lightly brush the inside of the bowl with olive oil if desired, and place on a baking tray.
Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
Mix the Filling: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, cream cheese, sour cream, paprika, salt, and pepper. Once well combined, fold in half the mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. Heat until the mixture is smooth and melty.
Assemble the Bread Bowl: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into the hollowed bread. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
Bake: Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the bread edges are crisp and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and serve hot.
Serving and Storage Tips
Serving: Serve immediately with toasted bread cubes, crackers, or vegetable sticks. It’s perfect as a main course or as a party dip centerpiece.
Storage: Store leftover filling in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a microwave or stovetop before serving.
Freezing: You can freeze the beef-cheese mixture separately (not in the bread bowl) for up to one month.
