Introduction
Tired of finding cockroaches in your kitchen despite your best cleaning efforts? These unwelcome pests can survive in even the cleanest homes, seeking warmth, water, and food. Chemical sprays may work temporarily, but they often come with health risks—especially in food areas. Luckily, there's a simple, all-natural, and 100% effective home remedy that’s safe for kids, pets, and your pantry. In this article, we’ll walk you through making your own cockroach-repellent mix using common household ingredients.
Ingredients
1 cup baking soda
1 cup powdered white sugar
1 tablespoon crushed bay leaves
10 drops peppermint essential oil (optional but highly effective)
Small shallow containers (jar lids or bottle caps work well)
Instructions
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the baking soda and sugar in equal parts. This powerful combination lures cockroaches (with the sugar) and eliminates them (with the baking soda).
Add Herbal Boost: Add crushed bay leaves to the mix. Bay leaves act as a natural repellent with their strong aroma that cockroaches can’t stand.
Enhance with Essential Oil: If available, add 10 drops of peppermint essential oil. Peppermint not only masks odors but also actively deters cockroach movement.
Distribute Strategically: Spoon the mixture into shallow containers and place them in common cockroach hotspots: under the sink, behind the stove, near garbage bins, and behind cabinets.
Replace Weekly: For maximum effectiveness, replace the mixture every 7–10 days or as soon as you notice it has absorbed moisture.
