- In a large bowl, sift the flour and make a well in the center.
- Add the yeast to the lukewarm milk and mix until dissolved. Let it sit for a few minutes until it starts to bubble.
- To the flour well, add the egg yolks, whole egg, sugar, salt, vanilla, lemon zest, and orange zest. Mix these ingredients together.
- Pour the dissolved yeast into the center of the flour mixture and start mixing everything together.
- Add the butter in small pieces and continue kneading until the dough is smooth and elastic. This can take about 15 to 20 minutes.
- If you're using candied fruit and raisins, add them to the dough and knead until evenly distributed.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place for about 2 hours or until the dough has doubled in size.
