Roses that cannot be pruned
Not all roses need to be pruned . For this reason, it is important to know the well-grown variety. Keep the label present at the time of purchase to be sure you don’t make a mistake. Climbing roses , which form a thick shrub with a natural habit, should not be pruned so as not to distort their exuberance. For the same reason, you should avoid pruning old rose bushes . These are splendid specimens with soft colors, hybridized before 1920, which are generally not reblooming. It is not even necessary to intervene on botanical roses , the wild species with a bushy habit. For these varieties, you can limit yourself to cutting some of the older branches every two or three years to reinvigorate the plant. However, avoid doing this operation in winter so as not to compromise flowering, but move it to July.

Not all roses need pruning

Pruning rose bushes, if you know the species you won’t make any mistakes
Pruning, on the other hand, is necessary for modern rose bushes, even if it is not for everyone in the same way . They are specimens obtained from hybridizations, generally everbearing and with large showy flowers that emerge from the foliage. There are bushy, landscaped or low varieties. Landscape roses and those with low bushes do not need to be pruned, unless you want to give shape to the plant and avoid sprawling development. Bushy varieties, on the other hand, must be pruned every year.

Start with dry, broken branches, old, woody ones, and the finer twigs that have grown inside the bush. Finally, work the other branches at a height of 20-30 cm from the ground. Make a clean cut about half a centimeter above the new shoots and never horizontally to avoid water stagnation. Start at the bud and work diagonally downward so that rain runs off the bud. Immediately after pruning, administer a fungicide product with a biological composition and an organic fertilizer
