Not all rose bushes need to be pruned and not all in the same way. There are a few rules to follow if you want luxuriant growth of the plant and copious and abundant flowering. Indeed, despite its delicate appearance, the rose is a very robust and very resistant plant and has great resilience. So no problem with pruning rose bushes if you know how to do it.

When to prune it
The best time to intervene is the end of winter when there should no longer be any risk of night frosts which would damage the shoots. When the buds are swollen is the ideal time, before they open. In the hottest regions from the end of January, in the coldest regions even from the beginning of March.

Use sharp pruning shears to cleanly cut the branch without causing abrasions. Disinfect the shears with denatured alcohol and repeat when moving from one plant to another to avoid transmitting diseases.

Choose dry days because water drops on the branches encourage the appearance of fungal diseases. Check the weather forecast to make sure no rain is forecast for at least the next day.
