Introduction
Broadleaf Plantain (Plantago major) is one of nature’s most overlooked yet powerful healing herbs. Found growing along sidewalks, trails, and lawns, this humble weed is packed with medicinal properties, including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound-healing benefits. Traditionally used for soothing insect bites, minor cuts, and even digestive issues, plantain is an essential foragers’ herb. Whether you’re a wildcrafting beginner or a natural remedy enthusiast, this guide will walk you through creating a basic, effective preparation using broadleaf plantain.

Ingredients:
1 cup fresh broadleaf plantain leaves (washed and gently dried)

1/2 cup olive oil (or other carrier oil like coconut or jojoba)

Optional: 1 tsp beeswax (if making a salve)

Optional: A few drops of vitamin E oil (for preservation)

Directions:
For an Infused Oil:

Chop the Plantain: Finely chop the clean, dry leaves to release their beneficial compounds.

Heat Gently: Place the leaves in a small saucepan with the olive oil. Heat on very low (do not boil) for 30–45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Alternatively, let the leaves infuse in oil in a sunny window for 2–4 weeks in a sealed glass jar.

Strain: Once infused, strain the oil using a cheesecloth or fine sieve into a clean jar.

To Make a Salve (Optional):

Melt Beeswax: In a double boiler, gently melt beeswax and stir in the strained plantain oil.

Pour and Cool: Pour into tins or glass jars. Let it cool and solidify before sealing.
