Introduction
Tired of battling pests with harsh chemicals that harm more than just bugs? You’re not alone. Fleas, ants, and roaches can invade your home quickly, and while commercial pesticides may be effective, they can pose risks to children, pets, and your health. The good news? There’s a simple, all-natural alternative you can whip up at home using safe ingredients you probably already have. This DIY pest repellent spray is eco-friendly, non-toxic, and surprisingly powerful. Say goodbye to unwanted creepy crawlies—naturally!
Ingredients
1 cup distilled white vinegar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon castile soap (unscented or citrus-based)
10 drops peppermint essential oil
10 drops tea tree essential oil
10 drops lemon or eucalyptus essential oil (optional)
1 spray bottle (preferably glass or BPA-free plastic)
Instructions
Prepare the Bottle: Clean your spray bottle with hot water and mild soap to ensure it’s free of residue.
Combine Liquids: Pour the water and vinegar into the spray bottle using a funnel.
Add Soap: Stir in the castile soap—this helps the solution cling to surfaces and pests.
Add Essential Oils: Drop in the essential oils. Peppermint and tea tree oil have insect-repelling properties, while lemon adds a fresh scent.
Shake Well: Close the spray bottle tightly and shake vigorously to blend.
Ready to Use: Spray around baseboards, under sinks, around pet bedding, windows, doorways, and any area pests frequent.
Storage and Use Tips
Shelf Life: Lasts up to 2–3 weeks when stored in a cool, dark place. Shake well before each use.
Safe Surfaces: Test on a small area before applying to wood or fabric.
Reapply: For best results, reapply every few days or after cleaning treated areas.
Pet Safety: Safe for most pets once dry—but keep pets away during spraying and avoid direct contact with cats, as tea tree oil can be toxic to them in high concentrations.
