Mice and rats are unwelcome visitors that can cause a variety of problems in your home, from spreading diseases to damaging property. However, there’s an easy and natural way to keep these pests from entering your home. This simple yet effective method involves using scents and ingredients that rodents absolutely detest. By implementing this strategy, you can make your home an inhospitable environment for mice and rats, without resorting to harmful chemicals or traps.
In this article, we’ll walk you through the ingredients, directions, and tips to ensure your home remains rodent-free.
Ingredients:
Peppermint essential oil
Cloves (whole or ground)
Eucalyptus essential oil
Garlic cloves (crushed)
Cotton balls or small fabric squares
A spray bottle (optional)
Water (if using a spray bottle)
Directions:
Peppermint Oil & Garlic Mix:
Take a handful of cotton balls or small fabric squares.
Soak them in a mixture of 15-20 drops of peppermint essential oil and the juice of two crushed garlic cloves.
Place these soaked cotton balls in areas where you have seen rodent activity, such as corners, under sinks, or near entryways.
Cloves & Eucalyptus Oil Spray:
In a spray bottle, mix 10-15 drops of eucalyptus essential oil with 1-2 teaspoons of ground cloves.
Add water to fill the bottle and shake well.
Spray the mixture around windows, doors, and areas that are more susceptible to rodent entry. Focus on cracks and crevices where they might sneak through.
Regular Maintenance:
Reapply the mixture every 2 weeks, or as needed, to maintain a potent deterrent effect. This will ensure that the scent is fresh and continues to repel the rodents.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Cotton Balls/Fabric Squares: Place them in areas that are hard to reach for easy application and to avoid disrupting your home’s aesthetic.
Spray Solution: Store the spray bottle in a cool, dark place when not in use. Shake well before each application to ensure the ingredients are properly mixed.
Freshness: To maintain the potency of the scents, re-soak the cotton balls or replace them with fresh ones every 3-4 weeks.
