Whether you’re celebrating with family or friends, this dish adds a touch of tradition, joy, and deliciousness to your table, making it the perfect way to ring in the new year. Let’s dive into this treasured recipe that’s become a symbol of love and happiness for our family.

Ingredients:

2 cups of long-grain rice
4 tablespoons of butter
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 cup of diced carrots
1 cup of peas (frozen or fresh)
1/2 cup of cooked chicken or shrimp (optional for added protein)
1/4 cup of soy sauce
1/4 cup of chicken broth
1 teaspoon of ginger powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)
1 tablespoon of sesame oil (optional for added flavor)
Instructions:

Start by cooking the rice. In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the rice and a pinch of salt, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Cook for about 18 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed. Set aside and let it cool slightly.

In a large skillet or wok, heat the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the diced carrots to the pan and cook for another 5 minutes, allowing them to soften. Stir in the peas and any protein (chicken or shrimp) you may be using, and cook for an additional 3 minutes until everything is heated through.

Once the vegetables are tender, add the cooked rice to the pan. Stir well to combine all the ingredients evenly.

Pour the soy sauce and chicken broth over the rice, and sprinkle the ginger powder, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together until the rice is evenly coated and the sauce is absorbed. For an extra burst of flavor, you can drizzle some sesame oil on top and stir it in.

Let everything cook for another 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat. Serve the dish hot, garnished with fresh cilantro if desired.
