This all-natural solution is not only eco-friendly but also kid- and pet-safe. Whether you’re hosting a backyard gathering or just enjoying a quiet night on the porch, this DIY bug repellent recipe will have you covered.
Ingredients:
1 cup water
1/2 cup witch hazel (or vodka as an alternative)
10 drops citronella essential oil
10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
10 drops lavender essential oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 small spray bottle (preferably dark glass)
Optional: fresh herbs like rosemary, basil, or mint
Instructions:
Prepare the base: In a small bowl, combine water and witch hazel (or vodka). Stir gently.
Add essential oils: Drop in the citronella, eucalyptus, and lavender oils. Mix thoroughly.
Include lemon juice: This adds an extra mosquito-repelling punch and a fresh citrus scent.
Optional herb boost: If using fresh herbs, bruise them slightly with a spoon to release their oils, then drop a few sprigs into the spray bottle.
Combine & shake: Pour the mixture into your spray bottle. Shake well before each use.
Spray generously on clothing, outdoor furniture, window sills, or wherever pests linger.
