Clear Lungs, Naturally: How Onion and Honey Can Help You Breathe Better

Introduction
Respiratory issues are more common than ever, especially with the increase in environmental pollutants, allergens, and seasonal illnesses. While over-the-counter remedies can provide relief, many are turning to nature’s medicine cabinet for gentler alternatives. One such remedy combines two humble kitchen staples: onion and honey. This dynamic duo has been used for generations to ease coughs, support lung health, and boost immunity. Here’s how you can make your own natural lung-soothing syrup at home.

Ingredients
1 large red or yellow onion (organic preferred)

1 cup raw honey (local or organic is ideal)

1 glass jar with a lid (sterilized)

Directions
Prepare the Onion: Peel and finely slice the onion into thin rings or small pieces to expose more surface area.

Layer the Ingredients: Place a layer of onion at the bottom of the jar, followed by a layer of honey. Continue layering until the jar is full, finishing with a generous layer of honey on top.

Infuse: Seal the jar and let it sit at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours. Over time, the honey will draw out the juices from the onion, creating a syrup-like mixture.

Strain (Optional): You may strain the syrup using cheesecloth or a fine sieve, or leave the onions in if you prefer.

Serving and Storage Tips
Dosage: Take 1 tablespoon of the syrup 2–3 times daily to help soothe the throat and lungs.

Storage: Keep the syrup refrigerated for up to two weeks. Always use a clean spoon to avoid contamination.
