6 tricks to always keep orchids in full bloom and make them last for years

Trick to Stimulate Blooming

An effective trick to stimulate orchid blooming is to let them experience a bit of cold. Place the orchid outside during colder months like February, March, October, or November, on a balcony or terrace, but avoid frost, direct sunlight, and cold drafts.

Keep the orchid outside for a week. This makes the plant sense the change in season and triggers blooming.

If the roots are exhausted and the plant hasn’t bloomed for a year, try another trick: dissolve a teaspoon of honey in the water used for watering, but do this no more than once a year.

Transplantation

This is simple: remove the plant from the pot and let the pine bark fall off. Spray the roots with an orchid-specific fungicide, then use some substrate to replant the orchid.

Continue filling the pot with substrate and tap lightly on the pot to settle it.

Pruning

If an orchid stem stops producing flowers and starts to decay (turning brown and beginning to dry), cut it off with sterilized scissors.

To promote healing of the cut, apply some cinnamon powder.
