Introduction: Cleaning oven racks can be one of the most tedious tasks in the kitchen. The build-up of grease, food particles, and grime can make your racks look dull and dirty, but there’s a simple hack to make them look as good as new without the need for harsh chemicals or excessive scrubbing. With just one common household item—a plastic bag—you can restore your oven racks to their shiny, fresh condition. This quick and easy method will save you time and effort, leaving your oven racks sparkling clean.
Ingredients:
1 plastic garbage bag (large enough to fit your oven racks)
Baking soda (optional, for extra cleaning power)
Dish soap (optional)
Water
Instructions:
Remove the oven racks: Take the oven racks out of the oven and set them on a flat surface, such as the kitchen counter or a clean floor.
Prepare the plastic bag: Lay out a large plastic garbage bag on the surface. You want it to be large enough to hold the racks and contain the mess as you work. Make sure the bag is intact without any holes.
Add baking soda (optional): If your racks are especially greasy or grimy, sprinkle some baking soda on the inside of the plastic bag. The baking soda will help break down grease and odors.
Soak the racks: Place the oven racks inside the bag. If you want extra cleaning power, you can add a few squirts of dish soap or water to the bag before sealing it. This will help loosen stuck-on food and grime.
Seal the bag: Carefully tie or twist the open end of the plastic bag to seal the racks inside. Leave the bag sealed for several hours or overnight. The longer you leave the racks in the bag, the more effective the soak will be.
Clean the racks: After the racks have soaked for a while, open the bag and carefully remove them. Use a soft sponge or cloth to wipe off the loosened grime. For stubborn spots, you can use a scrub brush or abrasive sponge. The residue should come off easily, and the racks will be sparkling clean.
Rinse and dry: Rinse the racks under warm water to remove any remaining soap or baking soda. Dry them thoroughly with a clean towel or allow them to air dry.
