How to Make Homemade Cheese with Only 3 Simple Ingredients

Making cheese at home may seem like a daunting task, but it’s easier than you think! With just three basic ingredients—milk, vinegar (or lemon juice), and salt—you can craft your own fresh, creamy cheese in a matter of hours. Homemade cheese not only tastes better but also allows you to control the quality and flavor, free from preservatives and additives found in store-bought varieties. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned chef looking for a quick cheese fix, this simple recipe is the perfect way to start your cheese-making journey.

Ingredients:
1 liter (4 cups) of whole milk (preferably full-fat)
3 tablespoons of white vinegar or lemon juice
1 teaspoon of salt (adjust according to taste)
Instructions:
Heat the Milk: Pour the whole milk into a large pot and heat it over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent the milk from sticking to the bottom. Heat until it just starts to simmer, reaching about 180°F (82°C). You’ll see small bubbles around the edges of the pot.

Add the Acid: Once the milk is heated, add the vinegar or lemon juice. Stir gently and let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes. You should start to see the milk separate into curds and whey (the liquid portion). If you don’t see curds forming, add a little more acid and wait a bit longer.

Strain the Curds: Place a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a clean bowl. Carefully pour the curdled milk through the strainer to separate the curds (solid) from the whey (liquid). Let it drain for a few minutes, and if you want a firmer cheese, you can press the curds gently.

Season the Cheese: Once most of the whey has drained, transfer the curds to a bowl and add salt. Mix well to ensure the cheese is evenly seasoned.

Chill and Serve: Your fresh homemade cheese is ready! If you prefer, you can refrigerate it for a couple of hours to firm it up a bit more before serving. Enjoy it as-is or use it in various dishes.
