Ingredients:
For the cake:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
½ cup cocoa powder (preferably unsweetened)
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 cup Nestlé Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
For the frosting:
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup Nestlé Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Prepare the Cake:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Add in the eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
Stir in the Nestlé Toll House chocolate chips for an extra chocolatey bite.
Gradually add the boiling water into the batter, mixing gently. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the Frosting:
In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it starts to simmer.
Remove from heat and add the Nestlé Toll House chocolate chips and butter. Stir until the chocolate chips are completely melted and the frosting is smooth.
Stir in the vanilla extract. Let the frosting cool and thicken for about 10-15 minutes.
Assemble the Cake:
Place one layer of the cooled cake onto a serving platter.
Spread a generous amount of frosting over the first layer.
Top with the second cake layer and cover the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
If desired, sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top for decoration.
